1857 N-2 R1+ Small Date PCGS graded MS63 Red & Brown.Frosty mint red fading to steel brown and olive with at least a third of the planchet showing mellowed mint color. The only marks are a small rim nick at star 13 and another at TA in STATES. MDS, die state a late. Some of the early die lines over UNIT are still visible. Sharply struck except for minor weakness on the coronet over LI (which never comes fully struck on this variety, even on the finest known examples). Our grade is MS64,tied for CC#2 with several other examples in the Grellman census. The attribution and COL Ellsworth Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; 3 finer: 2 in 64, 1 in 64+. Estimated Value $1,500 - UP
