1838 Classic Head Half Eagle. HM-1. Rarity-3. Center Dot, Broken Arrow. AU-55 (PCGS). Lustrous deep gold surfaces with a blush or two of pale rose iridescence. The 1838 rivals the 1837 as the scarcest Philadelphia Mint issue in the brief Classic Head half eagles series. Only two die marriages are known, and they are of comparable rarity. PCGS# 8176.
