1853-D Liberty Head Half Eagle. Large D. AU-58 (PCGS). Exceptionally well preserved for a Dahlonega Mint five of any date, this handsome medium gold example retains sharp striking detail to most major design elements, as well as ample luster in a softly frosted texture. Pleasingly smooth for the assigned grade, and sure to catch the eye of discerning gold enthusiasts. This issue is a favorite among mintmarked gold type collectors and Southern gold specialists alike, most of whom are pleased to settle for a lower grade survivor in VF or EF.
