Lot Description
The 1937-D 3-Legged Buffalo nickel is a world-famous KEY date issue that is well known to both advanced collectors and novices alike. This scarce variety was created when a mint employee ground down the reverse in an attempt to remove clash marks. His overzealous work removed the clash marks along with the Buffalo's front leg. While available in circulated grades, Mint State coins are scarce and GEMS are rare. This GEM is very eye appealing. Highly lustrous surfaces beam from all over with a wonderful multi-colored iridescent pastel toning seen on both sides, especially on the obverse. Generally well struck, there is just a touch of the typical weakness seen on these issues. PCGS 48, NGC 55. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $24,000 and this impressive GEM should bring around that amount when it crosses the block. These are rare finer. Cert. Number 50065481 PCGS # 3982.00
