1799/8 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. B-3, BB-141. Rarity-3. BB Die State III. 15-Star Reverse. AU-55 (PCGS). An obvious overdate variety, but more famous for its 15-star reverse, where two erroneous "extra stars" were mostly concealed beneath extra puffy clouds. Little spike-tips peek out from beneath the clouds, however, and these were eventually noted by numismatists, years after the coins were issued. This is a pleasingly smooth, ivory-gray example showing only trivial hairlines, under low magnification, and a few tiny nicks on the reverse.
