- On the one hand the 1911-D is a semi-key date issue in the Barber quarter series due to a mintage of fewer than one million coins (933,600 pieces). On the other hand, just how elusive this issue is in Mint State is not widely appreciated. So rare is the 1911-D in the finest Mint State grades, in fact, that even the fabulous Pogue Collection included an MS-65 for this issue, whereas MS-66s and MS-67s were acquired for most other Barber quarter issues, even the key dates. This premium Gem in PCGS MS-66 is far and away the nicest 1911-D Barber quarter that we can ever recall offering, providing a once-in-a-lifetime bidding opportunity for the astute collector. It is a lovely coin with semi-reflective fields supporting frosty, boldly to sharply defined design elements. Both sides are silky smooth in texture and dusted with delicate silver-gray iridescence that provides a very pleasing appearance.
