Lot Description
1859 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. Proof-64 (NGC). CAC. OH. Fully original and highly desirable Choice quality for this challenging early Proof Liberty Seated dollar issue. Both sides are toned in dominant apricot-gray iridescence with bolder steel-blue engaging the borders. Sharply struck throughout with an expectably smooth appearance in hand for the assigned grade. Although readily obtainable by early Proof Liberty Seated dollar standards, the 1859 is much scarcer than a mintage of 800 pieces might imply. Numismatic scholars believe that only 450 or so examples were actually distributed to contemporary collectors, the remaining specimens eventually disposed of through melting or, more likely, release into commercial channels. PCGS# 7002. NGC ID: 252D. Click here for certification details from NGC.
