- Obv: Similar to the design that the Mint used for regular issue Liberty Seated dime coinage in 1869, but without the date at the lower border. Rev: The inscription SIL. / NIC. / COP. in large letters, with the date 1869 below, in exergue, in a smaller font and slightly curved. Pewter gray surfaces are lightly struck and a bit subdued overall to explain the Proof-62 grade from PCGS. Although this copper-nickel-silver alloy was described as "Kuolz's" alloy in the Chapman brother's 1881 Lefferts sale, the uspatterns.com website states, "Research by David Cassel believes that the alloy is actually that of Montchal Ruolz."
