Lot Description

Sharp strike detail, richly original honey-rose color and freedom from singularly distracting marks give this coin superior eye appeal for the assigned grade. Lustrous, as well, with a softly frosted finish to both sides. Despite a not overly generous mintage of 392,000 circulation strikes, the 1904 is a plentiful issue by Motto Liberty Head half eagle standards. Several thousand Mint State coins have survived, but attractive examples at all levels are scarce relative to strong demand for classic U.S. Mint gold coinage in today's market.
