Intensely lustrous, frosty to semi-reflective surfaces are at the threshold of numismatic perfection. Both sides present an attractive rose-gold color with enhancing blushes of orange-apricot and powder blue. The originality of this coin is undeniable, its level of preservation outstanding. A tiny lint mark on the reverse that engages the letter A in DOLLAR and digit 3 in the date is as made and requires magnification to discern; there are no troublesome handling marks. Well struck with strong eye appeal, this is an extraordinary Superb Gem gold dollar from a mintage of 10,800 pieces. The 2011 <em>Guide Book of Gold Dollars</em> by Dave Bowers notes:<p><em>Very few, if any, 1883 gold dollars were placed into general circulation, a commentary that is relevant for all dates of gold dollars, 1879 to 1889. Thus, an exceptionally high proportion of circulation strikes survive today, mostly in Mint State and often Choice or Gem. Finding one that is "just right" will be no problem.</em><p>For the most discerning numismatists, especially those that demand approval based on strict CAC grading standards, this scarce offering in PCGS/CAC MS-67 represents a significant opportunity worthy of strong bids.
