Lot Description

1856 Liberty Half Eagle. MS-63 (PCGS). Sharply struck and frosty. Warmly and attractively toned in blended olive, violet, and rose. Despite a relatively large mintage of nearly 200,000 pieces, very few Uncirculated examples managed to survive, probably mostly as a matter of chance in bank vaults. Specimens grading MS-63 or finer are important condition rarities, a fact attested by the PCGS Population data below.
