Lot Description
Appealing 1787 Cross After Date Fugio 1787 Fugio Copper. Pointed Rays. Newman 1-B, W-6600. Rarity-4. Obverse Cross After Date, No Cinquefoils, UNITED STATES. VF-25 (PCGS). 133.4 grains. Exemplary tan with a small area of deeper olive at the obverse rim right of 6 o'clock. Nicely struck and well detailed despite several rounds of clash marks, visible on both sides. An arc of denticles frames the base of the obverse, just a hint of them at left reverse. Some very light surface detritus is present, and a couple of very old horizontal pin scratches in the sunrays blend in to no great effect. A very handsome example of this historic Fugio variety, using the same obverse die that was employed on the first Fugios, the extremely rare American Congress patterns. PCGS# 877. Provenance: From the John "Jack" Royse Collection. Purchased from Anthony Terranova.
