- Struck in an alloy of 40% nickel, 60% copper. <strong>Obv:</strong> The same design that the Mint used to strike regular issue 1853 Liberty Head quarter eagles. <strong>Rev:</strong> The denomination ONE CENT within a laurel wreath. This type is a metallurgical trial, with approximately two dozen examples of Judd-151 extant (per the <em>uspatterns.com</em> website). The Gem Proof offered here is fully struck with delicate champagne-pink highlights on otherwise bright pewter gray surfaces. Satin to semi-reflective in finish.
