Lot Description
THE SAN DIEGO COLLECTION This is the FINEST O-119 listed in the AMBPR, a scarce, Rarity-4+ die pairing. While the Overton-Parsley Census shows 67,65,65,64,63, none finer than this one has ever sold in auction. A lovely GEM! A vibrant luster accents the gorgeous multicolored toning on both sides. Soft powder blue at the peripheries meld into a peachy, apricot golden hue. The surfaces are satiny and offer a pearly underlying glow. A robust blow from the dies rendered the details fully and crisply and they stand out nicely from the virtually pristine surfaces. A strong glass fails to reveal any flaw or mark of any kind worthy of mention. The eye appeal is incredible. Ex Heritage, April 2008, lot 1079; Bay State Collection; Heritage's sale of the Bay State Collection, Part One, July 2009, lot 613; intermediaries; our consignor. PCGS 17, NGC 30, CAC 7. There are just two graded higher at PCGS for all the Small Letters varieties. The most recent PCGS/CAC MS65 sold for $9,600 in July 2022 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $11,250. It should be noted that major collections failed to include a GEM example of this Red Book variety, our sale of the Perfection Collection, only had a 64+. Bid accordingly. Cert.
