1873 Shield Nickel. Close 3. Proof-66+ (PCGS). This awe inspiring specimen combines a blend of powder-blue, pink and gold patina on both sides. Razor sharp striking detail and considerable reflectivity in the fields. Superior to most survivors from an estimated mintage of 1,500 to 2,000 coins (per Bowers, 2006) which are typically offered no finer than the Proof-65 level.
