- Lot Description
- 1936 Buffalo Nickel. Brilliant Proof-68 (PCGS).
Razor sharp devices and appreciably mirrored fields are dressed in warm sandy-gold patina. Champagne-apricot, pale pink and powder blue undertones add to the visual appeal. A truly remarkable example. The 1936 is the first Proof Buffalo nickel produced since 1916. Rarer than the only other Proof Buffalo nickel of its era -- the 1937 -- the 1936 has a mintage of 4,420 pieces. Nearly two-thirds of the coins struck were made with a satin finish, though the number of Brilliant and Satin Proofs known for the date are about equal in today's numismatic marketplace. Many collectors choose to own one of each style.
PCGS Population: 15; 3 finer (Proof-69 finest).
PCGS# 3995. NGC ID: 278Y.
