Lot Description
1840-O Liberty Seated Half Dime. No Drapery. V-6. Small O. Transitional Open Bud Reverse. Fine-15 (NGC). This variety exhibits the new Robert Ball Hughes reverse with open buds on the wreath and larger letters in the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, as used to produce Seated half dimes from 1840 to 1853. The 1840-O V-6 is described as ""rare"" in the Blythe Seated half dime reference (1992), the author also noting that, ""[Examples] can be found with diligent searching, but usually in lower grades."" Richly original, charcoal-gray patina blankets both sides of this smooth looking Fine. Free of detracting abrasions, with plenty of bolder detail remaining in the more protected areas.
