Lot Description

A readily identifiable die pairing, the Cohen-2 half cent features a comma-like break on the obverse between the digits 1 and 7 in the date. While some examples from these dies may have been included among the 37,000 coins delivered on October 27, 1795, most were delivered on December 1, 1795, where they comprised all of the 25,600-piece mintage of that date. Survivors are thought to number only 200 or so coins, the rarity factor more accurately described as R3+. Manley Die State 2.0, classified by the author as "very rare."
