1864 Indian Cent. Bronze. MS-67+ RB (NGC). Rick Snow, a noted authority on Indian cents, has stated that an original roll of 50 Gem Uncirculated 1864 bronze cents entered the numismatic market around 1987. We have no reason to doubt the validity of this report, but the coins involved seem to have little effect on the high grade availability of this issue. This coin combines smooth medium tan toning with plenty of remaining golden-crimson luster overall. Unusually well struck for the issue, both sides are sharply detailed throughout. With nary a distracting blemish, this coin would fit nicely into the finest Indian cent date set. NGC Census: 1; just 1 is finer within the category (MS-68). PCGS# 2077. NGC ID: 227L.
