Uniformly bold VF detail characterizes both sides, the surfaces of which are attractively original in a survivor of this historic first year circulation strike half dollar from the New Orleans Mint. The GR-5 variety of this popular key-date 1839-O half dollar comes with interesting obverse die cracks that add visual appeal and are sure to be of keen interest to variety specialists. Most notable is the crack from the rim through star 8 to the hair ribbon.
