Lot Description
1902-O Barber Half Dollar. MS-64+ (PCGS). CAC. A boldly struck obverse joins a reverse that displays typical softness for the issuing mint. Both sides are highly lustrous and choice, however, with enhancing blushes of iridescent golden-apricot toning. As with nearly all Barber half dollar issues from the Louisiana branch mint, the 1902-O is scarce to rare in the finer circulated and all Mint State grades. Heavy attrition through circulation claimed most of the 2,526,000 pieces produced and, indeed, the vast majority of survivors are in the lowest circulated grades. Among Uncirculated examples Gems are in the distinct minority. This premium MS-64+, equally as elusive, represents another fine bidding opportunity from the Abigail Collection. Provenance: From the Abigail Collection, Part III. PCGS Population: 2; 9 finer (MS-66 finest). CAC Population: 6; 2. The former total includes coins certified both MS-64 and MS-64+.
