Unlike examples that left the dies early in 1888, this very-gem gold dollar could never be mistaken for a proof, as it features a full complement of bright, frosty golden texture and dazzling luster. The surface appears utterly flawless and even a strong loupe reveals nothing more than limited trivial hairlines.
