Lot Description
Historically Significant 1906-D Barber Quarter 1906-D Barber Quarter. MS-66+ (PCGS). CAC. Here is an incredible premium Gem to represent the first quarter dollar issue struck at the Denver Mint. Both sides are beautifully toned in reddish-apricot, pale blue, olive and pearl gray, with the most vivid colors evident at the borders. Sharply struck overall with a full, smooth, frosty luster. Enough of the over three million coins struck were saved at the time that Mint State examples can usually be found. In grades above MS-65, as here, the 1906-D develops into a significant condition rarity. Among the finest known to PCGS, the Pogue specimen will appeal to those building high quality Barber quarter sets or mintmarked type collections. Estimate: $4,000 - $5,000. Provenance: From Heritage's Dallas, TX Signature Auction of November 2005, lot 1321. PCGS Population: 5; 3 finer (all MS-67). PCGS# 5643. NGC ID: 23Z6. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
