Lot Description

1837 Classic Head Half Eagle. McCloskey-2, Breen-6512. Large Date, Large 5. AU-50 (PCGS). The most accessible of three 1837 half eagle die pairs, distinguished by a Block 8 date and a solitary curl at the forehead. Green-gold luster is accented with spots of russet here and there on each side. The definition is better than often seen on this series notorious for weak central strikes. PCGS# 8175. NGC ID: 25RZ.
