Lot Description

A low mintage affair, the 1870 three-dollar gold piece saw only 3,500 stuck for commercial use, making it a scarce issue overall for the series. Lightly circulated, you can tell the surfaces had a reflective, prooflike finish before this example acquired light wear. Today, hints of that reflectivity are still seen within the protected areas around the devices. Well struck and devoid of significant blemishes, this AU-55 represents a nice collector grade for a challenging issue.
