Pretty golden-apricot color dominates this half eagle, which is also boldly lustrous with a uniformly satin texture across all elements. The surfaces remain remarkably untroubled beneath magnification, confirming the Choice Mint State rating from PCGS. Beautiful to examine in-hand. Survivors from a mintage of 1,912,000 pieces are available in grades through MS-63, but any finer and the 1887-S becomes a noteworthy condition rarity.
