Lot Description
Lot 1989 1852-D.PCGS graded MS-61.Boldly struck and needle sharp! Gorgeous greenish-golden luster adds to its appeal. A Premium Qualitycoin for the given grade. As has been observed before, Dahlonega Mint $5 gold pieces made in the years 1852 to 1856 have a changed appearance than those struck in the preceding years. Most are very weakly struck at the borders and have a distinctive beveled edge. The obverse of this handsome specimen has full detail on the hair below LIBERTY and on the curl below the ear. The stars are very sharp while the border is moderately so except from 5 to 9 o'clock. The reverse is very bold on the eagle and shield including full feet and talons. The denticles are weak from 9 to 10 o'clock but are sharp elsewhere. A decidedly superior specimen for the grade and one well worth stretching a little for to insure its place in your collection. Pop 2; 5 finer, 3 in 62, 2 in 63(PCGS # 8252) . Estimated Value $9,000 - 9,500. The Dandelion Collection.
