- 1889 Liberty Head Quarter Eagle. MS-64+ (PCGS). CAC.
Near-Condition Census quality for this underrated issue among late date Liberty Head quarter eagles. Bathed in satiny rose-gold luster, both sides are sharply struck in most areas with an expectably smooth appearance for the assigned grade. Although often regarded as a common issue for its type, the 1889 is surprisingly scarce even at the lowest reaches of Mint State preservation. Precious few survivors grade finer than the basal near-Gem level, this premium quality MS-64+ representing a significant find for the astute gold enthusiast who wishes to avoid paying considerably more for one of the MS-65s certified by PCGS.
PCGS Population: 3; 13 finer (all MS-65).
PCGS# 7841. NGC ID: 25LD.
