- Bountiful satin luster flows over smooth, expertly preserved surfaces. Also originally preserved, both sides sport lovely iridescent toning in silver-mauve and rose-russet that is boldest around the obverse periphery. The strike is impressive for both the type and issue, Liberty's head crisp and most other features boldly to sharply rendered.
The 1920 is one of the more readily obtainable Type II Standing Liberty quarters, and there are a number of outstanding Mint State examples known. In an absolute sense, of course, such pieces are rare, and most lack Full Head definition. Writing in the 2007 edition of his standard reference Standing Liberty Quarters, in fact, J.H. Cline asserts that only 10% of this issue's mintage of 27,860,000 pieces was struck with enough care to support an FH designation by today's strict grading standards. This is just such a coin, a strike and condition rarity par excellence for the advanced specialist in this series.
