1888 Three-Dollar Gold Piece. AU-50 (PCGS). 1855-C Liberty Half Eagle. Winter Variety 1 (23-J), the only known dies. EF-45 (NGC). Orange-yellow gold in color with lustrous fields. The strike is slightly blunt on the date and portions of the wreath. Recorded mintage of 5,000 pieces still leaves a handful for collectors, but these are truly scarce by virtually any measure of United States coins.
