- Lot Description
- 1796 Liberty Cap Cent. S-89. Rarity-3+. VG-10 (PCGS). Average quality for this popular design and variety, with dark olive fields with a few traces of raised patina, while the devices show smooth wear and copper. A minor dig is noted just above Liberty's head below ER(TY) and a couple of trivial scratches are found in the lower left obverse field. The reverse appears to have a few shallow rim marks, common to coins at this grade level. The Liberty Cap design is one of the more distinctive styles from our coinage and short lived as well, appearing late in 1793 and moving along in early 1796 when the Draped Bust design was adopted for the obverse.
