Lot Description

1854-C Liberty Half Eagle. Winter Variety 2 (22-J). Weak C. AU-55 (NGC). A slightly granular ""look"" to both sides is typical of many 1854-C Half Eagles, the cause of this feature being unknown to numismatic scholars. The strike is quite sharp, nonetheless, and there are no abrasions that we deem worthy of singular concern. The C mintmark is weak, as attributed, yet discernible with patience at most angles and without the aid of a loupe.
