- Description du lot
- 1787 New Jersey Copper. Maris 43-d, W-5225. Rarity-1. Outlined Shield, Bulbous Nose--Double struck--AU-50 (PCGS).
149.9 grains. Medium brown and mahogany, with boldly double struck areas on both sides. The doubling is most notable at CAESAREA and UNUM, but extends throughout the peripheral legends. A few little striations are seen around the plow, and some hairlines are seen at the central obverse. This is the sort of doubling described as "stutter doubling" in the SHI book, an error that is fairly commonly encountered on this die variety. A faulty feeder finger and ejection system is the likely cause.
Provenance: From the E Pluribus Unum Collection.
PCGS# 763359.
