Lot Description
1828 Classic Head Half Cent. C-2. Rarity-2. 12 Stars. MS-64 BN (NGC). One of the best known varieties of the denomination, here offered in lovely condition. Frosty, light mahogany-brown surfaces swirl with abundant cartwheel luster, with traces of bright mint color persisting around many of the design recesses. The surfaces show no serious disturbances, though we note a couple of minor marks on Liberty's cheek that probably serve to limit the already high grade. A very pretty example of this popular issue. As Manley notes, "although most specimens are in much lower grades, a number of Mint State specimens are known," though hardly enough to satisfy collector demand as is the case with the 1828 C-3s that were once available in hoard quantity. Provenance: Ex Dr. James O. Sloss; Abe Kosoff and Numismatic Enterprises' ANA Auction of August 1966, lot 1409; Donald G. Partrick; Heritage's sale of the Donald G. Partrick Collection, April 2021 CSNS Signature Auction, lot 3707. NGC Census: 8; just 1 is finer (MS-65 BN finest). Note: there are no Mint State RB coins yet certified at NGC. PCGS# 35264. NGC ID: 222W. Click here for certification details from NGC. Additional image by NGC Photo Vision. Learn more at NGCcoin.com
