Lot Description
This is a blazing, totally untoned, sharply struck GEM that is tied for SECOND HIGHEST graded at PCGS for this conditionally challenging date! While 6.38 million quarters were struck at the San Francisco mint in 1920, the striking quality was not the first priority. Not only did the strike not come through, but those that did come fully struck were apparently not saved at the time of issue, as the number of FH coins graded in GEM are few and far between. Bright and boldly lustrous with a frosty, satin bloom on both sides. Sharply struck devices, including a fully defined head and essentially complete shield, the details are razor sharp over all. Struck from a cracked obverse die, there is a cool die that penetrates Liberty's nose from the rim. Glowing, very clean silver surfaces give this wonderful GEM a great look! PCGS 8, NGC 3. Only a single MS65+ FH sold in auction, bringing $31,200 in the 2021 ANA auction. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $40,000 and The last PCGS MS66 FH was CAC approved and brought nearly six figures almost a decade ago! WOW. This is a great opportunity for anyone working on a GEM Full Head Standing Quarter set. Good luck. Cert. Number 46684970 PCGS # 5739
