Manley Die State 2.0, described as "rare" by the author. Sharply struck and frosty, this generally medium brown example retains appreciable faded rose-red mint color here and there around the peripheries. Faint carbon spots account for the MS-63 grade, but the surfaces are otherwise well composed and free of troublesome marks. The Mint delivered no half cents for theoretical commercial use in either 1830, 1831 or 1832 (many professional numismatists, including your cataloger, believe that the 2,200 pieces reported for calendar year 1831 were never delivered, leaving the 1831 as a Proof-only issue). Coinage in this format resumed in 1833, when 154,000 pieces were delivered, representing the entire mintage from 1832-dated dies. The Mint employed one obverse and three reverse dies in three pairings, with each of similar availability in today's market.
