1856-FD Octagonal 25 Cents. BG-107. Rarity-4-. Liberty Head. MS-65 (PCGS). Satiny honey-gold surfaces with pale silvery highlights. The maker's mark FD is at the top of Liberty's coronet. This popular and readily obtainable type is attributed to Frontier, Deviercy & Co.; we stress, however, that examples with the quality offered here are scarce. BG-107 is interesting as one of the plated issues in the California small denomination gold series, with higher karat gold plating over a lower karat gold core.
