- THE SOMMELIER COLLECTION A lovely N-3. Exceptionally lustrous with light brown, rose, and olive patina mingling with steely over tone. Hints of underlying original red comes to the fore when twirled in a light. There is a small planchet void on the reverse below the E in CENT and a streak of darker brown patina on the obverse between stars 5 and 6 into the coronet. Sharply struck from a later die state. The eye appeal is excellent. Tied for 7th finest in Noyes' Census. Ex Twin Leaf Collection, Stack's Bowers, July 2015, lot 2351. Earlier ex Tom Reynolds; Joe Dooley Collection, McCawley/Grellman, January 1997, lot 450; Stuart MacDonald Collection, Heritage, September 1997, lot 5300. PCGS 51, NGC 14, CAC 24. There are half a dozen graded MS64+ BN at PCGS and just 16 finer. Another MS64+ BN from the Twin Leaf Collection brought $2,820 in July 2015. As an MS64 BN CAC this coin brought $2,585 and the PCGS Price Guide is $2,500. A great type coin or example for a date set of Middle or Late Date large cents. Cert. Number 42075562 PCGS # 1835
