- A gently marbling of olive and autumn-orange brown greets the viewer from both sides, the latter representing faded mint color to an extent seldom seen on examples of both the type and variety. There is a swirl of charcoal at the left reverse border associated with light scale, centers softly struck with original planchet roughness very much in evidence, but of post-production marks there is nothing to report. The strike is appreciably bolder toward the borders, less than perfect centering explaining the lack of denticulation at upper obverse, reverse better centered with at least a hint of denticulation in most places. The fields are frosty with some original die finishing lines clearly seen, especially on the reverse. This is essentially a Mint State coin, although one that PCGS netted to AU-55 to compensate for the bluntness in the centers. Visually pleasing and numismatically significant, nonetheless, this RR-14 will have no difficulty finding its way into an advanced Vermont cabinet.
