Richly original surfaces exhibit iridescent pinkish-rose toning that blends nicely with warm honey-orange color. Both sides are sharply defined for the grade with an impressively smooth appearance in hand. With a mintage of 66,000 pieces, the 1913-S eagle has long been recognized as one of the key issues of its type. As with many of the mintmarked Indian eagle issues, most examples ended up in government melting pots during the late 1930s, after have seen considerable circulation in the western regions of the United States. This fortunate survivor is nicer than many certified Choice AUs that we have offered for the 1913-S in past sales, and it is worthy of the strongest bids.
