1874 Liberty Head Half Eagle. AU-55 (NGC). Warmly patinated in deep honey-rose, this inviting piece retains ample evidence of a semi-prooflike finish in the fields. The design elements are sharply to fully defined overall, and the eye appeal is considerable for a lightly circulated half eagle from this challenging era in the Liberty Head series. Our multiple offerings for Choice AU examples in this sale notwithstanding, the 1874 is a highly elusive issue that is seldom offered under normal market conditions.
