Lot Description

Richly toned in olive and gray-brown, traces of mint orange color persist in isolated areas, especially at the upper right reverse. The surfaces are hard and frosty in texture and show appreciable semi-reflective qualities as the coin dips into a light. Sharply struck with most features crisp, there is some muting to the appearance, this being the only obvious deterrent to a higher numeric grade. While not as advanced as that of the Syd Martin III:1197 coin (our Spring 2023 Auction), the obverse die state is fairly advanced here with numerous die chips scattered about on the obverse, the most noticeable at the rear of King George's cheek.
