- Obv: Liberty is seated left with 13 stars around the border and the date 1870 below. Liberty supports a shield with her right hand and holds an olive branch in her left hand. A free standing liberty pole is behind the portrait, and a scroll inscribed LIBERTY crosses the shield. Rev: The same design that the Mint used to strike regular issue Liberty Seated silver dollars of the Motto type. Otherwise smooth silver-gray surfaces that show evidence of a past gentle wiping in the obverse field; pretty iridescent gold undertones shine forth nicely as the coin dips into a light.
