- Lot Description
- Two distinct date logotypes were used in the coinage of 1855 large cents, one with the 55 upright and the other with the 55 in a slanted or italic. Both are available to collectors in similar numbers (the upright 55 is slightly more common than the slanted 5. This Brown GEM offers a strong strike. A warm, glowing, underlying luster highlights a layered, rich toning with hints of blue, gold, and tan in the protected areas. PCGS 84, NGC 80, CAC 37. In May 2021, a CAC example was sold for $780, though more recently a non-CAC coin sold for $990. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $850 and the CAC CPG is $975. This is absolutely a coin to consider for a very cool type set. Cert. Number 41620465 PCGS # 1907
