Lot Description
1786 Vermont Copper. Landscape. RR-7, Bressett 5-E, W-2025. Rarity-3. VERMONTENSIUM. EF-45 (PCGS). Glints of warmer gray-brown patina blend with dominant color in pale golden-tan. Left obverse border tight to the tops of the letters due to less-than-perfect centering on that side, but the reverse is better centered, and both sides show most major design elements boldly rendered. The plow, portions of the mountains and some details in the sun are soft from die fatigue, as is typically seen for examples of the RR-7 variety; lower right reverse also a bit soft. Planchet voids at the left-central obverse and through the letter R in RES are as made, faint vertical scratch through the left eye of the sun, otherwise the surfaces reveal no individually mentionable blemishes. There are three die varieties of this legend variant of the Landscape Vermont, and this is one of the two scarcer ones, though opinions differ slightly as to whether the RR-7 or the RR-8 is rarer. This is a handsome example in PCGS-certified EF that will find many willing buyers among Vermont specialists. Provenance: From the Bill Gleckler Collection. PCGS# 545.
