Lot Description
1853-D Round 50 Cents. BG-421. Rarity-4. Liberty Head. MS-65 (PCGS). This gorgeous Gem exhibits a semi-prooflike finish to golden-honey surfaces. With examples discovered among the wreck of the S.S. Winfield Scott(sunk December 1, 1853; salvaged in the early 1960s), this Period I half dollar issue obviously circulated in Gold Rush California. While BG-421 is not a major rarity in this series in an absolute sense, the present example in PCGS MS-65 offers undeniable condition rarity for the discerning numismatist. BG Die State IV. Provenance: From the Oregon Collection. PCGS Population: 6; 2 finer (MS-66 finest). PCGS# 10457. NGC ID: 2BKB. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
