Lot Description

Warm gray-brown patina provides an attractively original appearance. Sharply struck for the type, the surfaces are a bit subdued overall to explain the MS-62 numeric grade, but free of distracting marks and other blemishes. This popular Washington type was produced in England as part of a bid to secure a coinage contract from the United States Congress. While many examples that were shipped to America eventually found their way into circulation, many Mint State examples such as this were preserved by collectors and others in England.
