Lot Description

Breen Die State III. Attractive olive-brown patina on surfaces that retain appreciable faded mint orange color in the protected areas around many of the design elements. There is no denticulation at right obverse, upper reverse border a tad soft, but otherwise this piece is boldly defined in a lightly circulated Draped Bust cent. An old, light carbon spot is out of the way at the lower left obverse border, this being the only singularly mentionable blemish as the few marks are generally small in size and well scattered. Desirable for certified AU type purposes, this is also a pleasing example of the variety that Dr. Sheldon nicknamed the "cobweb variety" due to the clash marks below Liberty's chin that begin in Die State II.
