- Tompkins Die Stage 3/2, Rea et al. Die State P. Tompkins Plate Coin. Glorious peripheral toning in cobalt blue gives way to equally attractive reddish-rose iridescence toward the centers. Both sides are frosty in texture with plenty of luster and razor sharp strike detail remaining. Pleasingly smooth during in-hand viewing, and highly attractive. Our consignor acquired this coin to represent the late state of the 1832 Browning-2 dies, the obverse crack at stars 13 and 12 reaching star 11, and the reverse die lightly lapped.
Steve M. Tompkins Commentary: I purchased this coin uncertified on eBay more than 20 years ago based on poor-quality pictures. My wildest dreams were realized when the coin showed up at my door. Gorgeous toning and eye appeal made it a keeper.
