Lot Description
1871 Pattern Five-Cent Piece. Judd-1053, Pollock-1188. Rarity-6+. Nickel. Plain Edge. Proof-65 (PCGS). CAC. Obv: similar to the circulating nickel three-cent pieces of the era but on a larger scale. Rev: large laurel wreath, 5 / CENTS within, CENTS on a curved line. A boldly lustrous Gem with frosty motifs set against satiny, reflective fields. Wisps of pale champagne-gold enliven both sides. A circular die crack on the obverse connects the tops of the date numerals and the bottoms of the legend and is unbroken in its 360-degree trip around the circumference. This is the finest example of Judd-1053 certified to date by PCGS. Choice for the grade with plenty of eye appeal.
